A/ProfESSOR ALWIN CHUAN
Associate Professor Alwin Chuan is in mixed public and private practice in Sydney. Alwin is a senior consultant anaesthetist in Liverpool Hospital, where he is a conjoint senior lecturer with the University of New South Wales Faculty of Medicine.
Alwin has extensive academic interests, including ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia, medical education, cerebral oximetry, and major outcomes after surgery. He was an Australian National Health and Medical Research Council Postgraduate Scholar, under which he completed his PhD for developing assessment tools and new training methods in regional anaesthesia. He is co-author of the Oxford University Press Regional Anaesthesia Pocket Guide, and has contributed written modules for the University of Melbourne postgraduate ultrasound education courses, New York Society of Regional Anesthesia, chapters in regional anaesthesia textbooks, and peer reviewed publications. These academic endeavours inform best practice in anaesthesia and health care delivery both at the individual patient level as well as outcomes at a national level.
Alwin serves on several national committees, including the University of Melbourne Ultrasound Education Group, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists Regional Anaesthesia Special Interest Group, and is the scientific convenor for the Australian Society of Anaesthetists National Scientific Congress, Sydney 2019. He is a regular invited speaker at national and international conferences.
